現在進めている和モダンの庭づくりの一コマ。
テラスの縁を石で仕上げる「小端積み」の作業中です。石の一つひとつを吟味し、手作業で組み合わせていくことで、自然な表情と強度を兼ね備えた仕上がりになります。重機には頼らず、手の感覚で石を選び積み上げる工程は、庭づくりの中でも特に技術と経験が問われる部分。石の向きや角度が微妙に変わるだけで景色が変わるため、集中して一石一石を据えています。

Here, we are working on “Koba-zumi,” a traditional stone edging technique for the terrace.
Each stone is carefully selected and placed by hand, achieving both natural beauty and structural strength. Without relying on heavy machinery, the process demands skill and experience, as even the slightest change in a stone’s angle or orientation transforms the entire appearance. With full focus, every single stone finds its rightful place.

写真は「野面積み」の作業中で、自然石の形をそのまま活かしながら組み合わせていきます。一つひとつの石を見極め、隙間を埋めるように据えていくことで、無骨さの中に調和の美しさが生まれます。人工的な均一さではなく、石そのものが持つ表情を大切にしながら積み上げることで、強度と景観の両立を実現します。

Here, we are working on “Nozura-zumi,” a traditional stone masonry technique that makes use of the natural shape of each stone. By carefully selecting and fitting stones together, the wall gains both strength and beauty, highlighting the raw yet harmonious character of natural rock. Rather than forcing uniformity, this method allows the unique expression of each stone to shape the overall landscape.

自然石を割り、形を調整しながら一枚ずつ丁寧に張り合わせていきます。直線的にそろえるのではなく、石が持つ自然なラインを活かすことで、唯一無二の表情を持つテラスに仕上がります。石の厚みや角度を見極め、隙間をなくすよう据えていく作業は、根気と繊細な感覚を必要とする職人仕事です。

Every angle and placement reflects the craftsman’s skill and sensitivity.
